Transfer Content to Your New HTC One

Setting up a new smartphone can be a daunting task. With the introduction of HTC Get Started, we’ve made it easy to set up news feeds, email, and other services. Now, thanks to the HTC Transfer tool, it’s easier than ever to move text messages, photos, contacts, and calendar events from your old phone to your new HTC One.

Just go to “Settings” > “Transfer content” on your HTC One to pair it with your old phone and see what content can be transferred. Then, from your old phone, go to the Google Play and download and install the “HTC Transfer Tool.” Then simply follow the on-screen instructions to move your data. In addition to Android, you can also use HTC Transfer to copy content from an old Blackberry, Windows Phone, and more using Bluetooth**.

If you’re upgrading from an iPhone, you can use HTC Sync Manager to transfer content, even wallpapers, to your HTC One. To begin the transfer process, download HTC Sync Manager to your Mac or Windows computer. Connect your iPhone and use iTunes to back up your content. Then connect your HTC One and launch HTC Sync Manager to import this content to your new phone.

HTC Get Started, HTC Transfer, and HTC Sync Manager are the perfect tools to help you quickly get your phone up and running with the content you most want to keep.

**HTC Transfer Tool only supports Android phones 2.3 or later. Earlier versions can use Bluetooth to transfer data.

    HTC does not honor warranties.

So I purchased an HTC Evo View 4G through Spring last year. I won’t turn on so I tried to get warranty service. Spring does not print the MEID or the serial number on the receipt for tablets. Without the receipt, HTC will not provide service for the device.

No problems. I called Sprint and since they could not provide the receipt, the sprint representative called HTC directly to provide the order details. Guess what…HTC did not care and will not provide service for my device.

Well, it is an expensive lesson but good to know as I moved to a Samsung Galaxy S3 and a Samsung Note 8.0 (tomorrow).

      Hi Monica,

Did you by chance get a service request number or anything we can look up?

  • Prudence Allworthey

I don’t see the transfer content option under settings. I have the one S.
    how do I transfer?

    • Raymond Calbay

The Transfer content setting is a feature of the new HTC One. For older HTC One variants such as the HTC One S, you can use Bluetooth to import content from your old phone.

I tried to tranfer my contacts in the above mentioned way. Unfortunately, not any of my contacts were transfered from my old phone to new HTC one. All the messages were transferred succesfully, but no contacts. Do you have any idea why?

    • Raymond Calbay

When using the HTC Transfer Tool on your old phone, please remember to select “Contacts” on the list of content to be transferred.

Same happened for me. And no photos with contacts. Is this to do with what’s on the phone versus what’s on the memory card?

Trying to transfer contents for an old HTC evo 4G; ffter going through all the steps on the new HTC one it has following comment ‘Cannot initialize transfer tool- unable to turn on portable Wi- Fi hotspot’. Am I missing any step? Both phones are connected to local Wi-Fi network and the signal strength is excellent.

I am trying to sync my HTC One with HTC Sync Manager, but it will only collect all my photos and music from my computer, It won’t let me Sync my contacts and files. The Files and More tabs are greyed out. I also can’t set my phone up on Sync manager. Sync Manager does open when I connect my phone…but that is.
Would I be better of using HTC Sync??

I am experiencing the same issue. I have followed the instructions step by step from the link you provided above, but with no success. My One continually states, “Cannot initialize transfer tool: Unable to turn on Portable Wi-Fi hotspot.” Is there a way to resolve this?

  • Ankur Gupta

If both phones are plugged in (and remain plugged in) the greyed out options become available

I have sync manager, all it does is syncs then there is no change on my phone. i have at least 500 contacts on my iphone and dont wish to move them all manually

I have just purchased HTC One phone, but there is no option to record the calls.
Earlier I was using the Dell phone, it was having this feature with option to record the ongoing call.
When I try to record the call, through voice recorder or using the third party application, it is recording only my voice and not the incoming voice.
This seems to be ridiculous, after spending such a huge amount, this simple feature is not available in this phone.
HTC team is requested to kindly look into this issue and resolve and release the update asap.
    Thanks & Regards

My old phone is HTC Evo 3D, Android 4.0.1 and i can’t transfer my stuff to a HTC One. I used all you said here and from other sources but without any succes. With HTC Transfer Tool i can connect them but after a while a red triangle with an exclamation mark appears for every category which i selected for transfer. If i try to use HTC Sync i can’t save Contacts and Messages (they are grey).
