September is here, and for many of us that means the end of vacation, the start of school, the arrival of cooler autumn temperatures.
But for soccer fans, September can only mean one thing: the start of the UEFA Champions League and Europa League competitions, two of the biggest and most popular elite tournaments in club football.
For HTC, this is an exciting time since it marks the next phase of combining our passion for mobile with the world’s passion for the Beautiful Game.
Last December, HTC announced a three-year deal with the UEFA Champions League and UEFA Europa League, the Union of European Football Associations, to be their official smartphone supplier. That meant unprecedented exposure for HTC to their live audience of more than 1 billion fans, who saw the HTC logo and brand on the pitches, TV broadcast graphics, official web sites, and many other places.
This campaign marks a bigger investment by HTC this year to get the word out about our critically acclaimed products and experiences. Last month, we unveiled an all-new brand campaign centered on the concept of Change, and enlisting celebrated Hollywood change-maker Robert Downey, Jr. to our cause.
As we’ve seen with many other passions from photography to music, mobile is an increasingly important part of the sport and football experience. HTC research shows that up three-quarters of younger, tech-savvy access football content on their phones while watching matches on TV. But we knew we would have to go the extra step to truly connect with today’s media-savvy consumers. It’s not enough for them to see a brand, they have to experience it.
HTC is still a young brand and although awareness is growing, it’s still vital to get HTC phones in people’s hands so they can experience them for themselves. So our UEFA Champions League and UEFA Europa League partnership includes a number of fun, interactive experiences that showcase why we have a reputation for innovation and quality.
For example, in Britain, we are offering fans the chance to become the official HTC photographer during the Champions League trophy handover. We are also bringing the latest HTC experiences right to the stadiums with interactive trailers in places like London and Amsterdam. People can go hands-on with our phones while admiring the skills of freestyle footballers.
Look for HTC’s presence when the UEFA Champions League competition starts on September 17, and when the UEFA Europa League competition kicks off on September 19.
