The 18th birthday of the MOBO Awards was always going to be a huge night. National and international talent joined us to celebrate MOBO reaching its legal age. And while it might have been raining outside, the stars shone during the awards that honoured the best established and upcoming talents in music today.
Hosted by BBC Radio 1Xtra’s (and 4-times MOBO Award winner, of course) Trevor Nelson and Sarah-Jane Crawford, the ceremony featured performances from some of the hottest UK talent, including Tinie Tempah, Naughty Boy, AlunaGeorge, and Rudimental — along with a twerk-tastic performance from Australian rapper Iggy Azalea.
Laura Mvula was crowned queen of the MOBOs on Saturday as she walked away with two awards – for Best Female and Best RnB/Soul Act. Naughty Boy joined her picking up two gongs for Best Music Video and Best Song with Sam Smith. Check out the rest of the #MOBO18 winners here.
As proud sponsors of the ‘Best Newcomer’ award, HTC wanted make this occasion even more special. So what better way than with a limited edition HTC One in 18ct Gold? Valued at £2,750 and with only five in existence, the limited edition Gold HTC One is possibly — scratch that — IT IS the most exclusive smartphone ever created by HTC.
Out of the ten super talented emerging artists that were fighting to be crowned ‘Best Newcomer,’ it was the public’s favourite, newbie hip-hop/grime duo Krept & Konan AKA Play Dirty, who walked away with the gong and HTC One Gold.

“MOBO turning 18 is a huge achievement and a special time for us. The 18ct Gold HTC One phone is a great addition to our coming of age celebrations and helps add MOBO glitz to proceedings!” said Kanya King, founder of the MOBO Awards.
A year to remember and a night the winners will never forget. Happy 18th birthday, MOBO!
